Remember Spyro?

August 29, 2014

It’s annoying when some of the best games are modernised to the point where they’re not recogniseable anymore. That’s exactly what happened to Spyro the Dragon, and there’s no doubt that The Legend of Spyro certainly killed the franchise.

Spyro now only makes minor appearances in Skylanders and it’s quite crazy to think that it was one of the most popular PS2 games, but here we are with the PS4 and it’s nowhere to be seen. The games were changed too much for most peoples’ liking and the Legend of Spyro was dark and nothing quite like the previous world we all remember.

It’s a shame to think that Spyro will only be enjoyed when we dust down our old consoles and plug them in for an evening or two. For a game that had so much potential, it’s sad to see that it’s the end of the line and it has been for quite some time.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

August 29, 2014

Sonic has been changed quite a lot over the years and in Sonic Boom he’s taller than ever, but not quite as tall as Knuckles. It’s clear to see that the visuals are better than ever but that’s not really what deems the success of a Sonic game. It has to be quick, fun and addictive, and this is the large big chance for sonic to succeed.

This time round you can shoot through levels using a slingshot, while Metal Sonic is set to make an appearance. This game will definitely take some time to get used to if you haven’t played a sonic title since you had a SEGA Megadrive but it’s very much targeted towards a younger audience.

The trailer gives you an insight into the storyline, but only time will tell whether this game has been a success, and we don’t have that much longer to wait.

News out of the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014

August 27, 2014

Every year, all of the top game designers and producers trot out all of their most highly anticipated productions of the year at the Electronic Entertainment Exposition. This expo goes on every year, but this last one was particularly exciting, as the first expo since the release of the new gen of consoles.

Many of the game producers are beginning to get more comfortable with designing games which fully utilise the new capabilities the new consoles have, so there has been some huge improvements in terms of technical capacity since last year. Some of the games are from our favourite game franchises, such as Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain, the new addition to the Snake Soldier story line, Mortal Kombat and FarCry 4. We also have ones like Batman Arkham Knight, Let It Die, and Bloodbourne in the pipline, which are promising to make a pretty big impact into the world of gaming.

e-sports

July 28, 2014

Originally to games on a PC with your friends you had to set up a LAN party. This required you to be in close quarters with all your friends to be able to connect to each computer. However, with rising internet infrastructure, there has been a rise in online gaming. With most games (which allow it), you can now connect to the internet to play with anybody, from anywhere in the world. This led to games such as World of Warcraft, SWTOR and Guild Wars etc. However, some of the more popular titles are not typical role-playing games such as these. DOTA-2, League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are short game length games with a typical team vs team environment. Highly competitive groups of friends have competed with other groups. Professional teams have formed and the competition has only risen. A new term, eSports, has arisen. The sporting side of online gaming is booming, with competitions attended by tens of thousands and watched by millions. Prizes for the winning teams are rising into the millions of pounds. If you think you’re good enough, why not give it a go?

The Wolf Among Us – One of the Best Games of the Year?

July 20, 2014

While The Wolf Among Us is certainly one of the most popular games of the year, going by the number of sales, whether or not it has lived up to the hype is still up for debate.

The Wolf Among Us

The Wolf Among Us is set decades before the other fables games, and it largely follows a community of fables living in the human world along side humans. In order to fit in, all fables are required to buy a “glamour”, which works to change the appearance of the holder into a human resemblance.

The gameplay itself is much like a previous game developed by Telltale, The Walking Dead, in that you are required to make choices, both in action events and through “conversation trees”, and those choices can have far reaching consequences throughout the storyline and throughout your interactions with NPC’s. Just like with The Walking Dead, you can compare your choices to other real players of the game, and compare results.

Most people who have already experienced the gameplay through The Walking Dead reach the conclusion that this is a worse game in comparison, although it is still worth playing. If you aren’t familiar with the gameplay, then it provides a good opportunity to experience a largely unique variety of game. When you compare the game to others looked upon as contenders for game of the year, you will find it difficult to see how it can compete with them.

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14

June 29, 2014

You don’t have to be an avid golfing fan to enjoy this piece of art. If there’s one sporting game that’s made huge strides in terms of improvement than it has to be Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14. Not a great deal has changed in terms of gameplay, but there are now crocodile infested waters, stunning scenery and graphics that can easily fool you for real life footage.

You may also find yourself smashing a ball over a ship on a desert island, while the ‘normal’ golf courses are also on offer if you fancied a game of golf that was more sensible. This game has certainly been made more exciting and the attention to detail is on a different level to many other sports games.

TWPGAT14

If you’re looking for a game with many different modes, that doesn’t take itself to seriously then Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 must be considered. One look at the trailer is all that’s needed to persuade out to buy this title.

The Crew – What can you expect

June 23, 2014

If you’re an avid fan of the Fast and Furious films or perhaps a keen player of Need for Speed games, then you may want to consider buying The Crew. This is essentially a racing game that features modified vehicles and a ludicrous graphics.

If you think the previous next gen car games look good then this is on a completely different scale. You can drive for thousands and thousands of square miles, while the missions will keep you entertained when you want to take things up a notch.

The Crew

The great thing about this game is that you’ll always have your ‘crew’ right by your side, so you’ll never have to drive alone again. You can travel through the city centre, or head for a spot of off-roading. The game makes you feel like you actually are in the open plains of America, and there will definitely be times where you don’t want to put down your controller.

Murdered Soul Suspect PS4

June 19, 2014

Murdered-Soul-Suspect

One release that’s taken the gaming world by is Murdered Soul Suspect, and you’re essentially able to control a ghost character, to track down the enemy that killed you. The game is all about taking revenge, and the graphics are actually quite remarkable.

You’re given the freedom to explore this dark world, and you can basically do everything you’d want to do as a ghost. You can listen to conversations, walk through walls and you can actually physically move objects with your supernatural ability.

Some do say that the storyline is not as long tailed as people would like, and if you’re a ‘hardcore’ gamer you may find that this title doesn’t challenge you as much as you’d have hoped. The fact is though, that there are plenty of twists and turns and you’ll literally be on the edge of your seat at times.

The Xbox 1

May 31, 2014

The Xbox 1 is the newest games console released by Microsoft as part of their Xbox franchise. It is in direct competition with the earlier released PS4, but there are some stark differences between the two. While the PS4 focussed mainly on being a games console, the XBox 1 has aimed at creating an all inclusive entertainment centre for peoples living rooms, which can be used for playing music, DVDs, and games. The Xbox 1 also has higher computing power, so it can perform better than its competitor in most areas, including graphics. Unfortunately, this does translate into the increased cost of the Xbox in relation to its rival, costing a considerable amount more than the PS4. Although you can get a lot more out of the Xbox 1 than the PS4, it can be a trade-off, and it therefore may be worth it to carefully consider which would be best for you.
